How did it get so late so soon? It seems like it was just yesterday that we were all wearing flip flops at gym drop off and the athletes were still learning new skills for the season. Now, it’s already cold and dark before 5:00pm and all it takes is a quick glance inside the gym to see that the partnerships are already well into polishing their routines in anticipation of the first competition.

Perhaps one of the reasons it feels like time has flown by so quickly is because the acro program has had such a busy start to the season. Although acro doesn’t typically have any competitions until at least December, there have been plenty of activities going on outside of regular training to keep everyone busy and having fun both in and around the club and in the community. Here are just a few of the highlights from November.

Banquet – November 15

OGC’s annual holiday banquet is a much anticipated event by all of OGC and this year was no exception. The acro team was looking their very best as they braved the snow storm to enjoy a fun evening together complete with dinner and dancing.

Santa Claus Parade – November 17

Along with athletes from all of the other disciplines, many athletes from OGC’s acro team came out to support the annual Santa Claus parade held in downtown Oakville. The weather may have been a bit chilly but there were smiles all around. The older athletes handed out candy canes to the crowds and delighted parade-goers with their impressive tumbling skills while the younger ones rode on the float and waved to the crowds as the bakery elves.

The parade organizers did an impressive job of putting together the float and the athletes all proudly represented their club and community. To cap off the event, customary hot chocolate and timbits for all of the elves!

Acro Sleepover Fundraiser – November 30

Acro’s fundraising campaign kick-off began with every parent’s favourite word in the English language –  sleepover. So long as it’s not at our own house, that is.

Gisele’s dance studio graciously offered to lend their space to host this sponsored event and on the evening of the 30th, the acro athletes from Age Group and Junior/Senior, along with their coaches, choreographer, and a brave parent volunteer, descended upon the studio, sleeping bags and air mattresses in tow.

It still remains to be seen how much was raised by this event but regardless of the amount, I think it is safe to say from the smiles pictured here, the event was a huge success.

On the fundraising note, the acro cookie dough fundraiser has ended and the results are in… a total of $1,795.00 was raised for the acro program! A huge thank you goes out to the fundraising team for working so hard to put this together.

The acro gift basket raffle fundraiser has also just gotten started and by the looks of the beautiful baskets put together, it promises to be another great success.  For more info on this event including where to buy your tickets, click here.

What’s Next?

The countdown is on as the first Ontario Cup is in just 1 week! It will be held at OGC on December 8, 2018 and we are all very much looking forward to seeing the acro team in action. A draft schedule will be posted on the blog shortly.

Good luck to all!!!
